Xieng Liab Cave

You can see the limestone karst housing Xieng Liab Cave – named after novice Xieng and the legendary Nang Samounta’s tragic romance – from Route 12, about 11km east of Thakhek.

The cave, which is about 200m long, has impressive limestone formations on the ceiling and is said to contain many historical drawings.

In the dry season you can walk for 10 minutes to the river that comes out of the cave, and walk through the cave with a village guide. In the wet season you can take a boat trip through the cave.
