Thalang and the Nam Theun 2 Reservoir

The Nam Theun 2 Reservoir was created by the large Nam Theun 2 hydro-electric project that flooded the plateau in 2008. Thalang is beside the bridge across the Nam Theun 2 reservoir, alongside the the Nakai plateau and the Nakai Nam Theun National Protected Area.

You can stay there at a guest house with wifi and views over the water, watch local fishing boats and eat at waterside restaurants or have a picnic. Boat trips on the reservoir including trips to the islands can be arranged through guesthouses and local boat operators.

NOTE

Don’t let Google Maps confuse you. It still shows Nam Theun’s former state as a mere river, rather than as the massive reservoir that was created after the dam was built nearly 10 years ago.
