Ban Thabak has restaurants, shops and local weaving and crafts for sale. The village is at a scenic spot by the Nam Theun river with views to the mountains. You can take a trip on the river in boats made from remainders of the Indochina War in the 1960s. Villagers used to sell aluminium fuel tanks discarded by Phantom F-4 fighter-bomber planes as scrap metal – but now they use them as a torpedo-shaped boat streamlined for fast river travel.
